Did you feel comfortable with Algebra I but are finding Geometry much harder?

Algebra I and Geometry are very different subjects. The vocabularies are different and the ways of thinking (linear-symbolic vs. spatial) are very different. It's common for someone who liked Algebra I to find Geometry more difficult and vise versa.

Is Algebra II or Pre-Calculus going much faster than you expected?

Both Algebra II and Pre-Calculus cover a lot of ground. Most students find the pace at which new material is introduced to be faster than they are used to, and it is easy to fall behind.

Have you changed schools and the math class is in the middle of a unit you haven't had yet?

If you enter a new school, chances are good that the math material covered at your previous school will not line up well. Textbooks are different and cover topics in a different order, so you are likely to miss some material. That's a stressful situation guaranteed to make a student feel unsuccessful!

Would you like to work through questions on your test review worksheet?

Many math teachers will either tell students what material to review for an upcoming test or provide a review worksheet. Usually, the test such a teacher gives will be made up of questions chosen heavily from the recommended review material, so it’s a really good idea to know how to do all of the review problems. If there are problems you don't know how to do, let’s do them together, so you will be prepared for your test.

Studies show that natural ability is not required for a student to succeed at math. The biggest predictor of success is practice and a positive attitude.

My daughter was really happy yesterday that she got a very good grade on her math test. I think it was a big boost to her morale because she usually says she's real dumb in math. Thank you for working with her. She seems to have learned to be more confident and better able to handle the schoolwork.
